a short Biography

Born in Staffordshire, UK, John Waterhouse spent his early years surrounded by the beautiful countryside. From a young age, he had a great understanding of painting and drawing. At only 16 years old, he won a major school prize for his artistic achievements, which set him on a journey that would eventually change his life.

In that same year, he started his working life, first on building sites and in a local warehouse. He would paint and draw at every opportunity in the evenings and at weekends, pushing and working hard to perfect his skills and continually driving forward the boundaries of his artistic capabilities. His desire to become a successful and accomplished artist grew ever stronger.

John changed his job to give himself more time and flexibility to paint, taking a part-time position at a high-security prison as an art tutor, teaching young offenders. While doing these various jobs, he sold his paintings and drawings through commissions and exhibited his work locally, gradually gaining more and more interest from galleries and private collectors. His reputation as a serious artist began to grow, and eventually, the demand for his work became so great that he finished his part-time position at the prison to concentrate solely on his artistic career.

In 2001, his work was first published by one of the UK's leading fine art publishing companies. His originals have been exhibited throughout the UK, in some of London's Mayfair Galleries, Harrods, and in solo exhibitions on board Cunard ships. His work has been featured in U.S. art magazine "25 Artists You Should Know" and he has previously won the Fine Art Trade Guild's Up and Coming Artist Award. John went on to be a finalist for the Fine Art Trade Guild's Best Selling Published Artist Award.

Continually striving to deliver true emotion through his work.
